This book certainly hooks you in. I think the author does a great job with the setting & the language used makes you feel a part of the books' world at times. The eeriness & suspense of Hill House never really leaves for good, & the unreliable narrator does a good job at leading the reader on so you can spiral into madness with the main character.
Eleanor is a fantastically written tragic character. The book does a good job at exploring themes of grief, family trauma, found family, & a yearning for a place to call home. Seeing Eleanor's mental state continuously worsen throughout the events of the book as the house isolates & consumes her had me on the very edge of my seat as I was anxiously waiting for what would happen next.
Overall a very thrilling & fun read. I loved the characters the most, & even shed a few tears near the end as I personally related to Eleanor's plight.
